Disability Resource Center works with each student on a case-by-case basis to determine and implement appropriate accommodations based on documentation. Some typical accommodations for various disabilities include, but are not limited to:
- LEARNING DISABILITIES (including ADD, ADHD, and TBI ): note takers, alternative testing arrangements such as extra time, books on tape, computer with speech input, separate testing room, tape recorders/ digital recorders and foreign language substitution, Content tutors are available on campus through different departments.
- MOBILITY IMPAIRMENTS: note takers, scribes, lab assistants, alternative testing arrangements such as extra time, textbooks on tape, computer with speech input and transportation services through Public safety.
- DEAF OR HARD OF HEARING: note takers, alternative testing arrangements, sign/oral interpreters and transcribers, real time caption, remote caption .
- VISUAL IMPAIRMENTS: note takers, alternative formats of materials, assistive technology, and alternative testing arrangements such as extra time
- HEALTH IMPAIRMENTS: note takers, alternative testing arrangements such as extra time, schedule modification
- PSYCHOLOGICAL DISORDERS: note takers, alternative testing arrangements such as extra time, schedule modification
For All Students with Disabilities:
- DRC maintains a testing rooms that provides a place for students requiring accommodations to take their tests
- DRC provides basic training for and use of assistive technology (Kurzweil 3000 and JAWS etc) through FAAST
- DRC provides priority resgistration
- DRC periodically conducts workshops and training
- DRC provides appropriate accommodations, such as note takers and books on tape, that by law, students with a disability are entitled to.
Video Relay Service (VRS) is a free service for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community that enables anyone to conduct video relay calls with family, friends, or business associates through a certified ASL interpreter via a high-speed Internet connection and a video relay solution (or VRS call option).
