Hardware
In all of our adaptive technology locations, workstations have been ergonomically designed to allow students to adjust heights for easy mobility and comfort. Computers with large screen monitors (21") are available for maximum efficiency with magnifying software programs.
Also available through the Disability Resource Center are Braille typewriter, and a braille embosser with the Duxbury translation software program.
CAT Labs
The CAT labs in the library provide software programs designed to assist student with their disabilities.
To use the computers. Please go to ROOM 249 Electronic Research Center (ERC) and if there is no one at the desk go to the Reference Desk for assistance. Labs are only open during regular library hours.
Installed in any of the four rooms located on the 2nd Floor of the Green Library are:
- Zoom text version 9 : designed to enhance screen size and documents
- Kurzweil 1000 and 3000 verion 9 : designed to aid with reading and for individuals with learning disabilities
- JAWS 7.0 : reader for individuals with visual impairments, this software reads everything on the screen.
- MsOffice Suite : Includes Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.

Training
The Disability Resource Center is happy to provide training for the students and FIU community in the use of our assistive technology through our FAAST office. We are proud of the assistive technology we offer and hope students will become independent and proficient in their use of these technologies.
